Just a few days left to Christmas and I thought I couldn’t talk about flowers and Christmas without mentioning the humble Mistletoe.
Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that grows mainly on soft-wood trees such as apple. It just takes a single berry, generally dropped by birds, to land on a tree for Mistletoe to start growing. Its botanical genus is Viscum and it includes at least 30 different species.
There are many myths and legends around Mistletoe, one is Greek and fertility, another Celtic where it was assumed to be an aphrodisiac and also hung as an antidote and protection against evil spirits. Quite why it is used as Christmas decoration is unknown, although kissing below it may be a pleasurable experience….hopefully!
If kissing under the Mistletoe turns your stomach slightly or if all the Christmas preparations are making you anxious, try one of our Flower Essences or Bach Flower remedies as they may just make Christmas the uplifting time that it should be!
Have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas.
