Well, maybe not exactly the dawning of the age of Aquarius, but we are in February and Aquarius is aligned to the Water Violet.  If you are not sure what the Water Violet looks like, a picture is below.

Water Violet and Aquarius

February is the territory of Aquarians, independent, altruistic, innovative and original people. Humanitarians and great communicators, they are ruled by the genus sign of Uranus. This is a fixed,  air sign, their key phrase being ‘ I Know,’ and by nature may be detached and undemonstrative.

This zodiac sign aligns with the Bach Flower Water Violet, also independent types, preferring to keep to themselves. They have a tendency to ‘pride’, and may appear aloof,  finding it difficult to involve themselves with the ‘dirt’ of life as they perceive the world as a painful place to live. This flower lives in the middle of inaccessible, unpolluted pools, and have submerged roots that barely touch the bottom.

The life journey for the Water Violet types is to overcome the grief of life,  and find joy in bringing their huge talents to serve humanity.

I promised in my last blog that I would share information and have a ‘flower of the month’.  Here’s a little information about the beautiful snowdrop.

Snowdrops were planted around convents in the middle ages,  as a symbol of the nun’s virginity. This seems quite in keeping with their country name of February Fair Maids and the white flower gives a very clear message of purity. Huge bunches were traditionally brought into the church at Candle mass, which appropriately is the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin.

Specially hardened stems help the Snowdrop to push its buds and leaves up through the frozen ground, and to flower in what is still the cold, icy ‘death’ of winter, sometimes as early as January. Water is often used to symbolise the flow of the emotions. The drop-like  flower, hanging down, gives the image of tears of sadness in dark, frozen ‘wintry’ times of loss and grief. The strong energy of this flower essence can find it’s way through our hardened, held down feelings and give us ‘hope,’ which is its special meaning in the victorian language of flowers,  ’hope’ for the coming of spring, warmth and new life.

Another meaning in the language of flowers for Snowdrop  is ‘consolation’ and this essence can bring us comfort. Snowdrops are sterile, pure like the nuns,  and increase by producing mini bulbs, which are dispersed via flowing water or streams.  Taking this special flower brings release as our feelings gently melt,  and our emotions can again flow forward, like the tiny bulblets in the water,  into the future and  hope for new beginnings.

Snowdrops and hope

Now we are moving into an exciting new year, let’s banish those dark winter moods with mustard flower essence.

I will be selecting a different flower each month and also an astrological sign too, so look out for next months edition.

The Mustard Flower Essence

Ideal for those dark winter moods

A Mustard Flower Essence type mood can descend unexpectedly, like a gloomy, black cloud, which banishes all hope and light, and there seems to be no reason for it! Nor is there any notion of when it will deign to leave! Sometimes  it’s just down to the dark, dank ,cold days  of winter,  so the essence is useful to have to hand at  such times.

The actually underlying reasons can be lurking,  deep, in the unknown depths of our mind, just as the Mustard lies dormant in the seed bank, waiting for some disturbance to the soil, which brings them up to the surface where they quickly germinate, if conditions are right.

The solution to this dark mood,  lies in the bright yellow , sunshine, flowers of a fields of Mustard plant, brightening and lightening our mood, helping it to gently dissolve.

Happy New Year and welcome 2012 – I do hope the Mayan prophecy proves to be inaccurate too!

Often we feel quite drained and exhilarated moving into a New Year.  All the festive parties, food and drink has caught up with us somewhat leaving us feeling quite sluggish, but at the same time, there’s the exhilaration of moving into a brand shiny new year.  What we all need is to regain a little balance, physically and mentally and natural essences may just be the remedy.  Dr Bach Rescue Remedy is now famous the world over; there are many many other remedies as well that will complement and enhance your lifestyle.

We are members of the British Association of Flower Essence Producers and all essences are organic – spend a few minutes browsing our website too.

Just a few days left to Christmas and I thought I couldn’t talk about flowers and Christmas without mentioning the humble Mistletoe.

Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that grows mainly on soft-wood trees such as apple.  It just takes a single berry, generally dropped by birds, to land on a tree for Mistletoe to start growing.  Its botanical genus is Viscum and it includes at least 30 different species.

There are many myths and legends around Mistletoe, one is Greek and fertility, another Celtic where it was assumed to be an aphrodisiac and also hung as an antidote and protection against evil spirits.  Quite why it is used as Christmas decoration is unknown, although kissing below it may be a pleasurable experience….hopefully!

If kissing under the Mistletoe turns your stomach slightly or if all the Christmas preparations are making you anxious, try one of our Flower Essences or Bach Flower remedies as they may just make Christmas the uplifting time that it should be!

Have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas.

This is my 4th blog and this week I think it’s poignant to talk about Holly.

In pagan times, Holly is believed to have crowned the Winter King who was sacrificed at mid winter. This was adopted by Christianity who at the time,  chose to absorb popular customs rather than eradicate them.

Christ was adopted as the sacrificed God-King, and the holly tree became the ’holy’ tree. The crown of thorns a holly wreath, the four petalled white flower , his purity and the cross;  the red berries his blood.

We bring holly into our homes at Christmas as it is the tree of Christ’s love, a symbol of renewal and light in the darkness of the shortest days of the year. Here the season turns and the days lengthen and spring begins once again.

As a Bach Flower Remedy, Holly is for the strongest emotions, for example, hatred, anger, envy, jealousy etc…              The Holly remedy shines into us the light of unconditional/universal love for all things, which is symbolised by the Christ. Without a harsh thought,  he forgave those who crucified him,  saying,’ father,  forgive them for they know not what they do’. We all understand that there is nothing wrong with getting angry sometimes, it is only when there is a lack of love that hatred can arise.

So spare a thought for the humble Holly and the story behind it when you decorate your homes this Christmas time.  Amongst all the commercialism at this time, this simple story has true meaning.

Don’t forget our Christmas shop for a true individual and local gift; great for those stocking-fillers

In my last blog I promised that I would share some of Dr Bach’ Signature of Flowers and that the next one would be Mustard.

Dr Bach grouped his 38 remedies into manageable groups and Mustard was placed into the ‘Helpers’ group.

The Nineteen Helpers are for challenges that are caused by our interaction with life, and are the final group Dr Bach made. He made them over a period of six months in 1935 . We can often trace these difficulties back to an actual event, such as bereavement. These conditions are often very painful to live with and may be the most obvious in a consultation. Transformations of these states with the essences, translates into valued, wisdom and experience of life – the old wise head you cannot put on young shoulders.

Mustard is fantastic for those times when we feel down and nothing has happened to make us feel that way.  Its like there is a dark cloud hanging over and we have no idea when it will lift. Of course it does, but only when it is ready to go, and that the hard bit!

If you are curious about this wonderful natural world of healing, please give me a call.  We also have some unique gifts ideal for Christmas – these can be ordered on line too.

Hello and welcome to my second blog.

In this blog, I would like to introduce you to the Doctrine of Signatures which is the process of unveiling the healing qualities of a flower essence that is rooted in mediaeval cosmology.  I don’t want to ‘blind you with science’ and I have said that this is just an introduction to whet your appetite so I will be sharing information with you over the next few months about properties of individual plants.

Graphologists will read a person through their hand-writing; plants may be read through their growth pattern.   This may include the colour of the flower, root structure, shape of leaves, preferred place of growth, and the general shape of the plant, how it fruits, its yearly cycle, historical uses, folk law and so on.

Think of the dandelion – its yellow colour is like a jaundiced person and it is thought by herbalists to be good for liver problems.  In fact, it does cleanse the body, so it is beneficial in such cases.

Dr Bach brought the idea of Doctrine of Signatures into the present day, but unfortunately wrote little about it.  More recently, research has been done by J Barnard and his book Form and Function that explains this very complex area.

In my next blog, I will share information with you about impatiens and aspen and also share some gift ideas for the Christmas period

Hello – I’m Vivien and I thought that it was high-time that I started to share my knowledge and a small part of my life with the on-line community.

I live and work in a small village just outside Cromer and develop beautiful and healing flower essences and Bach Flower remedies, which is coincidentally where Dr Bach made and researched many of his flower essences.   We prepare them all by hand in the traditional way – just as Dr Bach would have done himself.

Another love in my life is bee keeping.  I became the proud ‘Mum’ to 10,000 new residents, plus one queen, half way down the garden sometime during June 2009. They made up their numbers very quickly, yes 1000’s more somehow appeared, and I think it was something to do with ‘the birds and the bees!’  As the season progressed they even made lots of honey, enough for me to have a few jars, which I didn’t expect, and enough to keep them going through the winter.   We have had lots of fun and games since then, and I now have two hives, so look out for these buzzy updates in the future.

I will not go into any further detail in this first blog as I plan to bring to you regular updates on flowers and plants and how they can be used and what for, as I am passionate about what I do and I would really love to share my knowledge and experience with other people and I hope you will enjoy reading about it too.
